PantryChic wants to make measuring cups a thing of the past. Its futuristic ingredient store and dispense system simplifies ingredient prep, takes the guesswork out of baking and cooking and facilitates hassle-free cleanup. Users affix the canister of their desired ingredient to the dispenser and input their desired quantity. The dispenser then does any necessary conversions and dispenses the ingredients into the mixing bowls. Users can also communicate with the bluetooth-enabled device via tablet and walk through recipe apps that detail which ingredients and quantities to use. Ideal for eaters with dietary restrictions, the system allows users to create and store their own recipes for future use. PantryChic is looking to raise $50,000 on Kickstarter to bring the product to market.
Oasis Farmery wants to produce vegetables using 90% less land and 90% less water than traditional methods, all the while farming fish. The startup is building a large scale aquaponics system to grow local fish and vegetables. This entails growing the two in a symbiotic relationship, i.e. the nutrients from the fish fertilizes the plants, and the plants filter the water for the fish. The startup recently launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the build out of a renewable-energy powered greenhouse, with vegetable gardens over fish tanks and an observation area in the middle, which is integral to their mission to educate the community on sustainable growing methods. The end goal is that the system will be able to produce food for restaurants, reports TechVibes.
The Napa Valley Bee Company wants to bolster beekeepers and strengthen local bee genetics. It’s working to connect seasoned beekeepers – “those who have bees with locally proven genetics” – to beekeepers who are just starting their apiaries. Its latest project, The Napa Valley Bee Exchange, will offer classes, workshops, and individual instruction, all focused on building a healthier future for bees, and thus for humans. The organization has set out to raise $15,000 on Barnraiser to build a community-based, sustainable beekeeping hub and queen breeding facility.
Stret¢h wants to help people eat healthy and save money. How? Its app matches your cash on hand or your budget with nutricious chef-created recipes and coupons for the necessary ingredients. The process is simple. Users enter the amount of money they want to spend, the number of people, the days they want the budget to last and any dietary restrictions and preferences, select recipes (currently a database of 500), choose their desired store and receive their shopping list and coupons. The startup launched an Indiegogo campaign last month and is looking to raise $25,000 to fund the completion of its MVP.
