Big news from Food+Tech Connect Headquarters. Due to popular demand, we’ve launched a Food+Tech Meetup in San Francisco. Just like our NYC Meetups, our SF Meetups bring together entrepreneurs, investors, chefs, farmers, food artisans, health professionals, analysts, journalists, advocates, hackers and makers of all kinds to network and explore how we can use technology to create a better future for food. For our first SF Meetup – 7:00 PM on Thursday, May 1 at Lemnos Labs -we’ll do a deep dive into a handful of innovative hardware startups. From diet and fitness trackers to food allergy sensors and fresh food vending machines, these companies are working to transform the way we eat, move and live.
Our standout lineup of presenters:
- Santiago Merea – head chef, The Orange Chef Co. – The Google Ventures, SparkLabs Global Ventures, Lerer Ventures backed maker of Prep Pad, a smart food scale that calculates nutritional information in real-time with an accompanying iOS app –@TheOrangeChefCo.
- Laura Borel – product manager for nutrition, Jawbone – The Sequoia Capital, Khosla Ventures, and Andreessen Horowitz backed mobile lifestyle product startup and maker of Jawbone UP, a fitness wristband and accompanying app that help you track how you sleep, move and eat so you can make smarter choices – @jawbone.
- Elle Penner – registered dietitian, MyFitnessPal & Eliza Jones – Business Development, MyFitnessPal – The Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and Accel Partners backed calorie counter and exercise app with the world’s largest nutrition database that’s helped over 50 million people loose weight – @MyFitnessPal.
- Alex Yancher – co-founder, Pantry – The fresh food vending machine that allows vendors to sell their food in hospitals, airports, gyms and offices and offers analytics and real-time sales reporting to help them grow their businesses. – @pantrylabs.
- Shireen Yates – co-founder & CEO, 6SensorLabs – The food transparency-focused consumer products startup, whose first product, a portable gluten sensor, lets users test their food before they eat it. – @6SensorLabs.
You’ll get a behind the scenes look at their missions, business models and technologies, and each startup will have 5 minutes to present followed by 5 minutes for audience Q&A. Stick around for networking, snacks and beverages after the presentations.
