Here at Food+Tech Connect we love food data and design, which is why I was excited to learn about Snack Data, a visual database of snack foods, from an interview in Bon Appétit. Created by Beau Johnson, each snack illustration – 176 to date – is accompanied by a description of the food and a tasting note. The wide range of snacks currently include everything from apples and okra to tamales and sliders.
Johnson’s ultimate goal is for “the database to be ever-growing, documenting all snacks and perhaps aiding in the development of new ones. It is the definitive snack resource,” he commented in his interview with Bon Appétit.
While the descriptions are more comical than factual or scientific, Snack Data is certainly a fun first step to cataloguing the world’s snacks.
