CNN & Foursquare are collaborating to encourage healthy eating & local sourcing. As of this past Sunday, you can follow CNN at Foursquare.com/CNN and unlock the new CNN “Healthy Eater” badge by checking in at one of the 10,651 farmers markets around the world.
According to the Eatocracy website:
Eating healthy, local, farm-fresh foods should be fun and rewarding. In addition to being thanked by your body, show the CNN “Healthy Eater” badge to participating farmers markets and the vendor may choose to give you a discount or gift with your purchase.
The USDA is thrilled about this innovative approach for encouraging consumers to shop at farmers markets for fresh, local, healthy food.
The USDA National Farmers Market Directory allows consumers to find the freshest and tastiest fruits, vegetables, and other products available in communities around the country, notes Rayne Pegg, Administrator of the Agricultural Marketing Services, the agency which supports the USDA Farmers Market Directory. It’s exciting that we are able to make this valuable information available in a new and creative way.
